1 3/8 x 1 5/8 in. tintype portrait of CSA General John B. Magruder standing in civilian clothing. (Image a bit dark, crackling to surface, with a few minor spots of loss; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Printed paper label behind image identifies subject.
General Magruder (1807-1871) was recognized for delaying the advance of Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan's large force during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign. He was transferred to the West where he commanded the Military District of Texas, New Mexico & Arizona, and was credited with the recapture of Galveston in 1863.
