Together, 3 banknotes, 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 in., or smaller.
Scottish economoist John Law devised a financial scheme in France between 1717-1720, promoting French lands in the New World centering on the lower Mississippi Valley (Louisiana). With the assistance of the Duc de Orleans he founded the Banque Royale, which collapsed in 1720 sending European financial centers into turmoil. These banknotes were issued in large quantities and soon were worth nothing, although few survive today.
