[CIVIL WAR]. Painted escutcheon identified to Private Charles Remy, 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

17 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. (visible) oil on canvas, housed in 22 1/2 x 28 1/2 in. frame (frame with some chips, scratches, and wear, small loss to three of four frame corners, light dampstaining to top of canvas). Civil War service escutcheon featuring a detailed record of Private Charles Remy's service, including a list of all engagements and attachments, a bugle and knapsack representing Co. I, 107th OVI, and the Great Seal of Ohio at center.

The 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, which was also known as the 5th German Regiment, served from September 1862-July 1865, participating in a number of important battles and campaigns, including the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Siege of Fort Wagner. Charles Remy (1827-1893) enlisted in July 1862 and served until he was discharged for disability in May 1865.
