NORTH, Frederick, 2nd Earl of Guilford (1732-1792). Document signed ("North"), as Prime Minister. [London], 1777. Also signed by George ONSLOW, 1st Earl of Onslow (1731-1814, "Onslow"); Charles Wolfran CORNWALL (1735-1789, "C.W. Cornwall"); William LYTTELTON, 1st Baron Lyttelton (1724-1808, "Westcote"); Charles TOWNSHEND, 1st Baron Bayning (1728-1810, "Townshend"); and Francis SEYMOUR-CONWAY, 1st Marquess of Hertford (1718-1794, "Beauchamp").
2 pages, 7 3/4 x 8 5/16, irregular right edge, contemporary ink stains. Manuscript treasury warrant in which of the peers has signed in acknowledgment of their salaries as Exchequers.
[With:] CAVENDISH-BENTINCK, William, 3rd Duke of Portland (1738-1809). Document signed ("Portland"), as Home Secretary. Whitehall, London, 25 April 1796.
A petition for Letters Patent submitted by James Jordan of Oakhill, Somerset, for having "invented certain new Improvements in the building and constructing of Bridges aqueducts and various public and private Buildings and which may also be applied to other useful Purposes." A second hand endorses the petition: "His Majesty is graciously pleased to refer this Petition to Mr Attorney or Mr Solicitor General to consider thereof and report his opinion what maybe properly done therein, whereupon His Majesty will declare his further Pleasure."
