A December 2, 1979 St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers Game Ball Presented to Coach Bud Wilkinson,
gifted to the College Football Hall of Famer the week he was fired from a two-year professional stint with the Cardinals for refusing owner William Bidwill's suggestion to start backup quarterback Steve Pisarkiewicz in place of veteran leader Jim Hart against the 49ers. The Cardinals would go on that Sunday to edge the 49ers 13-10 and presented this game ball to Wilkinson after the victory as a touching gesture of the their admiration for the coaching legend.
