Letter regarding the President's warrant of pardon and the necessary letter of acceptance which was required to be signed and returned to the Secretary of State at Washington. Signed in type by "Charles J. Jenkins." Executive Department, Milledgeville [GA], 1st September, 1866. 1p, 8 x 10 in. (light soil, creasing at folds). Charles J. Jenkins (1805-1883) was a committed secessionist who served as Georgia governor from 1865-1868. He was noted for his defiance of Federal military authority. -- A group of election tickets: Republican ticket for the 1869 Virginia Governor's race which featured Radical Republicans Horatio Wells (1823-1900) and African American physician Dr. Joseph D. Harris (ca 1833-1884) for lieutenant governor; Conservative Republican ticket for the 1869 Virginia Governor's race featuring Gilbert C. Walker (1883-1885) and John F. Lewis for lieutenant governor; and People's Party ticket for the November 7, 1893, Virginia governor's race featuring white supremacist and Civil War veteran Edmund R. Cocke as Democrat candidate for governor. (All in generally good condition with creasing, toning, light soil.)

[With:] "An Address to the People of the Sixth Congressional District" signed in type by P.A. Krise, Chairman Sixth District. Lynchburg, Virginia, 31 October 1888. On letterhead of the "Rooms Sixth Congressional District Committee." With less than a week until the November election, Krise asks whether the voters in his district "prefer to be represented in Congress of the United States by the standard-bearer of the Democratic party, or by the man who stands for Republicanism and all the evil and humiliation the term implies."

Tharin "Manager of Election for precinct at Mount Holly - Goose Creek at the General Election to be held on the 7th of November, 1876." -- The Southern Opinion. Vol. 2, No. 75. Richmond, Virginia. 5 December 1868. Front page dedicated to coverage of the "Assassination of Henry Rives Pollard." Pollard was the editor and publisher of The Southern Opinion. -- A group of ephemera related to education, including an 1879 "Address of the State Executive Committee of the Conservative Party of Virginia, to the Friends of the Public Schools" and a copy of H.R. 140 in the US House of Representatives, a bill introduced by Thaddeus Stevens "To establish a system of common schools for the District of Columbia." -- A register for a school in District No. 48, Searcy County, Arkansas for 1889. -- Plus miscellaneous other ephemera.
