Jeff Davis. After the Fall of Fort Sumter 1861 / 1863. Boston: D.C. Johnston, [1863]. 2 11/16 x 5 1/2 in. fully extended (light adhesive residue, possibly later reinforcement to pull tab). Publisher's statement to verso. Shows an elated Davis at the "Fall of Fort Sumter 1861." When pulled, the tab transforms his face to irate dismay "after the fall of Fort Sumter 1863" when Federal forces retook the South Carolina fort.

[With:] "On to Richmond" and Back Again. Jugate vignetted portraits of Jefferson Davis and Horace Greeley. N.p.: N.p., ca 1867. Likely produced in 1867 when Horace Greeley, who was advocating for the restoration of relations with the South, recommended Davis's release from prison, even signing his bond. RARE, no other copies of this unexpected political alliance found. -- Vignetted portrait of Davis. N.p., n.d. -- Together, 2 albumen CDVs on cardstock mounts, each approx. 3 5/8 x 2 1/4 in., toned, some soiling.

[Also with:] The Last of the Chevaliers. (End of the play). Boston: L. Prang & Co., 1865. 2 3.8 x 3 7/8 in. CDV-sized engraving. Davis is depicted wearing a disguise of women's clothing at gunpoint with the caption: "Jeff. "I thought your government was more magnanimous than to hunt down women and children."
