VIALLANES, Jean-Baptiste (1761-1826). Autoraph letter signed ("Viallanes"). Krzynowłoga, [Poland], 21 April 1807. 2 pages, 4to, loss to corner of integral leaf, pencil inscriptions.

Viallanes was a military man, originally enlisting with the Regiment of Dragoons of Artois in 1780, which became the 12th Regiment of Dragoon sin 1791. During the French Revolution, his career accellerated and was promoted through the ranks. He was active in command during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. This letter to a woman regarding a military appointment for her son was written during the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806-1807) during the Polish campaign.

Pajol was a veteran of the French Revolution and the Napolenoic wars, serving as a cavalry general and distinguishing himself at the battle of Austerlitz, the campaign of Friedland, the battle of Dresden, the Battle of Leipzig, and the Six Days Campaign. Upon the results of Wateroo, Pajol retreated to Paris and played an active part in concluding the war. During the July Monarchy, he suppressed riots in 1831, 1832, 1834, and 1839.
