Half plate standing portrait of young Persifor fully clad in colonial costume. (Heavy tarnish surrounding subject, scratches to plate, no preserver present; unsealed.) [Philadelphia, PA: M.A. Root], ca 1851. Housed in a full pressed paper case marked for Root (major separation to spine and edges). -- Half plate standing portrait of Persifor wearing his regular casual attire, and holding a hat in one hand. (Heavy tarnish around subject, scratches to plate, no preserver present; unsealed.) Housed under mat and glass only (paper backing cut to access image plate). Modern ink note on paper backing identifies subject as "Persifor Frazer (b. 1844)." -- Together, 2 daguerreotypes of the charming Frazer boy.

Persifor Frazer sat for a portrait session with Marcus Root in the early 1850s, having multiple daguerreotypes produced from that sitting. The colonial costume image featured here appears to be the same image, possibly the original image, from which a CDV of Persifor was created by Philadelphia photographer Montgomery Simons, now curated by the Library Company of Philadelphia. Other CDVs in that collection feature portraits of Persifor as an adult, including one in which he poses again in costume, as though he is studying, in Freiburg, Germany.
