Note:

Palampore is an Anglicized variation of the Persian and Hindi word for bedcover (palang-pash) and describes large chintz fabrics that were regularly exported from India to the European market during the 18th and early 19th centuries. A similar example to the present lot in color and style is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (IS.299-1890). The V&A's curatorial note attributes this coloring—a palette of red and violet, with a notable lack of indigo—to the Coromandel Coast in southern India.
