[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 5 items identified to Private Reuben Morris (3), 4th Iowa Cavalry, and John Spence, 24th Kentucky Infy., DOW, incl. photographs and documents.

Pay of Volunteers, partially printed document, 8 Apr, 1865. Spence was a corporal in the 24th KY Vols., who died of wounds in Knoxville, TN on Dec. 29, 1863, although where he was wounded is not stated. the form states that his father was to receive $146.24 for Spence, Jr.'s back pay minus a fine and clothing fees.

There is also a cdv of a Union infantry corporal. It is not identified, but on verso is penciled "Salem Ohio," which would have been just "over the river" for a Kentucky guy (even though it is just Southwest of Youngstown).

The other items are associated with Reuben Morris, 4th Regiment Iowa Cavalry. One is a "Certificate of Service" stating that Morris was enrolled in the 4th IA Cav. on 17 Oct. 1861 and discharged for disability on 9 Jan 1863. He enlisted as a private and was not promoted. There is also a pension form, 18 Feb. 1898, replacing his original discharge form which was presumably lost, stating that he is to receive 10 dollars per month. In addition, there is a 7-1/2 x 9-1/2" photo of an aging GAR member (wearing his medal), with a younger couple and their infant, presumably Morris and one of his children with their family, although nothing is written on the mat.
