Lot Description

LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Partly printed warrant filled out to Lincoln, signed by him on verso ("A. Lincoln"), from the Auditor's Office, Springfield, 14 November 1844.

One page, narrow oblong 32mo (191 x 76 mm), accomplished in manuscript, corner loss.

Countersigned by William Lee D. Ewing, who served as the fifth governor of Illinois, a U.S. Senator from Illinois, and an Illinois State Senator. During the Black Hawk War, he served as a Colonel of the "Spy Battalion" alongside Captain Abraham Lincoln. The present document was issued to Lincoln "in part for his Services as Bearer of the presidential polls from Lawrence County to the Seat of Government."
