The Jewelry Collection of Lillian Louise Glenn

Freeman's is pleased to offer the jewelry collection of Lillian Louise Glenn as part of our November 7 Jewelry & Watches auction. The Glenn Collection (Lots 156-185) is dominated by daring statement jewelry - from a highly articulated panther bracelet ($40,000-60,000), a droll frog brooch and bangle with emerald eyes ($4,000-6,000) to a stunning diamond geometric diamond strap bracelet ($15,000-25,000) - Peaches' (as she was better known to friends and family) discerning eye and sense of whimsy are reflected in the pieces being offered.

Lillian Louise Glenn was born to James and Florence McClaine on June 7, 1928. Living a charmed life in South Philadelphia, her family ran the highly successful McClaine Florist shop. Spending her summers in Ocean City, New Jersey, Lillian would eventually meet her future husband, George Parnell Glenn Jr., during one of these summer retreats. The married couple would eventually settle in Vineland, New Jersey where they would raise their two sons, George III and James.

A successful orthopedic surgeon, George Parnell Glenn Jr. served as a Commodore of the Ocean City Yacht Club and as a member of numerous orthopedic associations. As active members of the community, Lillian and George became lifetime members of the Union League of Philadelphia and generous benefactors to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Lillian had a discerning eye and spent a considerable amount of time amassing an exquisite collection artwork, jewelry and fashion items that showcased her sense of whimsy and refinement. Lillian traveled extensively with her family; Fiji, Tonga, Europe, St. Barths and South Africa being just a few of her favorite destinations. During these expeditions, Lillian acquired an appreciation for local cultures and started collecting jewelry that reflected her admiration for each region’s aesthetic heritage.
