Latin American Art
Freeman's Latin American art specialists conduct international sales through our Philadelphia-based auction house and live online. Their knowledge of art and its current market are essential to the overall successful sale of original art, individual paintings, works on paper, and sculpture by modern Latin American artists such as Fernando Botero, Diego Rivera, Francisco Zúñiga, and Leonora Carrington. Freeman’s department specialists work with private buyers, advisors and museums to place works with discerning and selective collections.
Drawings by Leonora Carrington, Fernando Botero and Frida Kahlo have fetched top prices, as have several sculptures by Botero, and paintings by Wolfgang Paalen, Mathias Goeritz and Miguel Covarrubias. Late 20th century prints by Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo and Francisco Zúñiga are also regularly featured, offering clients an affordable way to begin a collection, or an opportunity to round out a well-established collection. In 2014, Freeman’s found and identified two important works by Mariano Rodriguez in a private estate. One of these had been featured in the artist’s catalogue raisonné, but was been subsequently lost until the auction. Strong prices were realized for both after spirited bidding from the internet and telephones from both domestic and international bidders.
Freeman’s includes Latin American Art in our Modern & Contemporary Art auctions each year in May and November. For more information about buying or selling your works of Latin American art, please contact one of our specialists to make an appointment for a complimentary consultation.
